Why hello there. Welcome.

It’s me, Ammar. This is Pacific, a tiny newsletter about avoiding bureaucracy in software, work, and life.

Modern American culture celebrates the big and orchestrated. But the intentionally small has a quality all of its own.

The small instructs us on how to see and how to think.

As designers Jasper Morrison and Naoto Fukasawa once wrote:

There are better ways to design than putting a big effort into making something look special.

Special is generally less useful than normal, and less rewarding in the long term.

Special things demand attention for the wrong reasons, interrupting potentially good atmosphere with their awkward presence.

On a weekly basis, I will do what I can to explore this sentiment. Thanks for dropping by and I hope you enjoy!

I know this is very trite, but I seriously look forward to every single response I get to my emails. Please don’t hesitate to criticize or chip in on anything I write. If you wanna learn more about me, I’m working on a little website for more info (ammarmian.com).
